Keywords:Resveratrol glycoside,Postprandial blood sugar

The Northwest Plateau Institute of Biology of Chinese Academy of Sciences, learned that resveratrol can reduce postprandial blood glucose, The researcher provides an alternative compound for the development of postprandial hyperglycemia in the treatment of diabetes mellitus.

Resveratrol is widely distributed in plants and has a high content. Currently, at least 70 plants have been found to have resveratrol, which this drug was found in Tanggut rhubarb by The research group on vegetation restoration and medicinal plant resources of the Northwest Plateau Institute of Biology of Chinese Academy of Sciences.

Tanggut rhubarb is distributed in the areas of Gansu, Qinghai and Qinghai and Tibet,It grows in the alpine valley at an altitude of 1600 to 3000 meters.

Zhao Xiaohui, an associate researcher at the Northwest Institute of Plateau Biology of Chinese Academy of Sciences, introduced that by systematically separating and screening the chemical constituents of Tanggut rhubarb, Resveratrol glycoside has significant α-glucosidase inhibitory activity and can inhibit diabetic mice after a meal blood sugar increases.

It is understood that diabetes is a chronic metabolic disease, mainly characterized by hyperglycemia, as well as severe diabetic complications, including coronary artery disease, stroke, peripheral arterial disease, retinopathy, kidney disease and neuropathy.

"Regulating postprandial blood glucose levels is an effective treatment for diabetes and prevention of diabetes-related complications." Zhou Guoying, a researcher at the Northwest Plateau Biological Research Institute of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, said that a-glucosidase inhibitors have been recommended as first-line drugs for the treatment of diabetes, but Drugs have a large side effect on the gastrointestinal tract, making it clinically limited. Therefore, screening high-efficiency and low-toxic α-glucosidase inhibitors from natural products is a research hotspot in this field.

"In vivo research have shown that oral resveratrol can significantly inhibit postprandial blood glucose increase in normal and diabetic mice in a dose-dependent manner," Zhao Xiaohui said. "In addition, through enzyme kinetic analysis and molecular docking experiments confirmed the competitive inhibition mechanism of resveratrol on α-glucosidase was determined."

According to the International Diabetes Federation, the prevalence of diabetes among urban residents is much higher than that of rural residents. By 2045, three-quarters of diabetic patients will live in cities. The global goal of “Urban Changing Diabetes” is to reduce the incidence of obesity by 25%, thereby keeping the prevalence of diabetes in 2045 below 10%.

So resveratrol will be a breakthrough in diabetes.
